NPP delegates rate the current party administration as average; JFK leads in the latest

A new poll by Apex Intelligence and Innovation Insights shows that while many New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates view the current party administration as average, Justin Kodua Frimpong (JFK) has opened a clear lead in the race for general secretary. The survey was conducted among current NPP delegates across the party’s structures, from the constituency level to national officers.

The findings suggest that the mood within the party is neither one of outright rejection nor strong endorsement of the current national leadership. According to the poll, 43.8 per cent of delegates rated the performance of the current national executives as average, making it the single largest response. Another 24.7 per cent described the administration’s performance as good, while a combined 27.7 per cent said it had been poor or very poor.

That pattern points to a party base that appears cautious in its judgment. The figures suggest that although the current administration still retains some level of acceptance, many delegates are yet to be fully convinced by its overall performance. In practical political terms, that creates an opening for candidates who can present themselves as more effective organisers and stronger party managers. It is against that backdrop that JFK has emerged as the clear front-runner in the latest survey. He leads the field with 48.3 per cent support, putting considerable distance between himself and the rest of the contenders. His nearest challenger, Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi, records

12.1 per cent, followed by Hon. Kwabena Kokofu on 11.1 per cent and Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful on 9.9 per cent. The remaining aspirants trail further behind, leaving the race, for now, heavily tilted in JFK’s favour.

Beyond the headline numbers, the poll also offers insight into what delegates appear to want from the next General Secretary. The most valued qualities identified in the survey are strategic planning (24.1 per cent), effective communication (22.2 per cent), loyalty and sacrifice (21.1 per cent), and administrative excellence (20.7 per cent). Technocratic skills rank lower at 11.9 per cent.

These findings suggest that delegates are placing greater premium on practical leadership ability than on image alone. They appear to be looking for a General Secretary who can think ahead, communicate clearly, remain loyal to the party’s cause, and manage its affairs effectively. That makes the contest less about visibility and more about perceived organisational competence.

The survey analysis also indicates that JFK is seen to perform strongly across several of the very attributes delegates say matter most. That overlap between preference and perception may help explain the scale of his lead in the poll. At this stage, he is not only ahead in general support, but also appears to benefit from being associated with the kind of leadership profile many delegates say they want.

Overall, the latest Apex Intelligence poll presents a straightforward picture: delegates are giving the current party administration an average rating, and in the race to become the next General Secretary, JFK currently holds a commanding advantage. Whether that gap narrows in the coming weeks will depend on campaigning, alliances and delegate mobilisation, but for now, the numbers clearly place him in front.

Survey note: Fieldwork was conducted from March 11 to March 22, 2026, using a stratified random sample of 871 NPP delegates across the 16 regions, with a 95 per cent confidence level and a margin of error of ±4.0 per cent.
